Evening blog readers. I’m trusting you’re all doing fantastically this fine weekend !! Well, it’s actually not that fine here in Brisbane, but hey, we’re not gonna complain about getting some good rain falling.


I thought it was time to share an update on Master 12 and his journey towards living the best ADHD life he possibly can.

We are due to go back to the Pediatrician in a few weeks, but in the meantime, we’ve been experimenting with a 10mg ‘top-up in the early arv.  (This ‘experiment’ is with the Peads full approval, just in case you’re panicking.).    The top-up has been particularly helpful when there is an evening activity, which let’s face it, now that the term is in full swing, there are lots of these.  Growth group at church, youth group, Cadets.. and soccer training will start within the next few weeks too.  We’re also looking into starting Karate this week.

I’ve also been doing a lot of research on essential oils and plan to purchase some Lavender, and Frankincense blends in the very near future.  There is quite a lot to read/watch on the subject of essential oils and their benefits in the life of an ADHDer.  I’m very keen to try this as any natural assistance would be great !!  I’m also keen to try a blend called ‘Balance’ in the main area of our home.  This blend is known to calm emotions etc, so this can only be a very good thing when you have teenagers in the house.  (I’m thinking I need it the most.. lol)

There are blends available to aid with concentration and focus, but to be honest, I’m really not sure if it’s a huge issue for our boy.  He doesn’t appear to have any issues when it comes to focusing and staying on task at school.  Something to be very thankful for as I know that this can be a really big issue for a lot of ADHDers.  Who knows though what difficulties (or improvements for that matter) could come about as he grows and continues to go through different stages of puberty.

Master 12s life (& in turn, ours) became much much calmer when we started him on Melatonin of an evening (as previously blogged about), but the reality is that it is quite expensive.  When a good friend pointed me in the direction of an ADHD parent support group, I saw very quickly that there was a herbal on-line company where you could purchase the Melatonin for a significantly cheaper price.  So, that’s been ordered and is on the way, hopefully to arrive by this coming Wednesday.  We are currently having fun times with working around having no mediation to get to sleep.  There is low light happening, a warm cup of tea before bed, no screens 2hrs before bed.  It’s going ok, but let’s just stay I’ll be glad when the goods arrive, and so will he.

One of the most prominent things for my son though is that he is at his very best when he has had a fair amount of physical activity as part of his day.  I thought it was just a convenience thing when we bought him a new bike in order to be able to ride to school, but I really think that that 10min ride getting to school greatly helps him to have a good start to his school day.  I’ve noticed in the afternoon too if for some reason he didn’t ride home but was collected, it’s not as calm an afternoon as when he has ridden home.

Also, following/during a meltdown, a bike ride is THE BEST thing to have him do.  It pretty much 100% turns him from an out of control, angry kid, to the soft, tender hearted boy that he is.  It’s actually quite amazing to witness the transition.   I’ve even resorted to having him watch a show he likes while walking on the Xtrainer, if I believe there hasn’t been enough physical exertion throughout the day.   It’s a good trade-off. :0)

Wrestling is also a fantastic aid for him.  It really allows him to burn off some energy, (which otherwise could cause havoc), while also feeding his need for physical touch, which is most definitely his love language.  My love language, however, is not physical touch, so he wrestles with Dad.

But, surprise surprise, my BEST piece of advice for an ADHD parent…  and the advice I have clung to the most.. is to pray over your ADHD child.  Sadly, the enemy has got a pretty good platform to have a field day in the life of a child with ADHD (& in turn, his family), so we need to be in the Word daily, and in constant communication with the most effective, most well known, oldest (lol) and most inexpensive Pediatrician available.  (He’s also on call 24/7 and never complains about the amount of times you complain, or the amount of questions you ask.) . And in those REALLY awful times when we really don’t know what to pray for at all….  these 2 verses are significant.

Likewise the Spirit helps us in our weakness. For we do not know what to pray for as we ought, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us with groanings too deep for words. And he who searches hearts knows what is the mind of the Spirit, because the Spirit intercedes for the saints according to the will of God.  Romans 8: 26-27

For I consider that the sufferings of this present time are not worth comparing with the glory that is to be revealed to us.  For the creation waits with eager longing for the revealing of the sons of God.  For the creation was subjected to futility, not willingly, but because of him who subjected it, in hope that the creation itself will be set free from its bondage to corruption and obtain the freedom of the glory of the children of God.  For we know that the whole creation has been groaning together in the pains of childbirth until now.   And not only the creation, but we ourselves, who have the firstfruits of the Spirit, groan inwardly as we wait eagerly for adoption as sons, the redemption of our bodies.  For in this hope we were saved. Now hope that is seen is not hope. For who hopes for what he sees?  But if we hope for what we do not see, we wait for it with patience. Romans 8:18-25
