Jesus… our constant encourager

Evening all… Well, it’s Sunday night and I’m only a good sleep away from a new week of work, study.. and all the other things that go with the ‘Mum life’.

As you can see by the below photo, I was able to pull myself out from under the lazy sunday haze, and head out to the shed for a solid workout tonight.   ūü§ó

As always, I feel super encouraged after having done my session.   I’ve given my body the respect it is due, while also continuing to thank my Lord for His ultimate sacrifice.   Whenever I want to quit, I remind myself that Jesus had nails put thru his wrists & ankles, hung on that cross, suffered a torturous death…. all so that I would have LIFE.. and have it in abundance. (John 10:10b).  The very least I can do is respect the earthly tent he gave me.

I’ve shared with you all before how I can often struggle with the ‘mind game ‘ of fitness and healthy living.   I can be nowhere near ‘falling off the wagon ‘ but can end up feeling that way due to a comment or situation that has happened.  Now, this weekends occurance shows that it’s not only a negative or nasty comment that the enemy can use as a way to pull you down.  I had a friend over who is on a fitness journey, just like me.  Now all she did was explain her methods, fitness & food choices etc.. and I came away feeling that I was ‘doing it wrong ‘ (which illogically takes me down the train of thought that I’m ‘failing’).

This didn’t bring me low for long at all, Praise God.  It did however remind me that I need to hold my shield up high at all times.   Something so innocent… not ever a comment about me personally.. or my choices.. had me doubting myself.

I need to constantly remind myself Who I am.. and whos I am !! I do this in the day to day.. but I need to apply this to my fitness journey also.   I’ve said it before… Jesus is my workout buddy… and it’s so true..  He gets me through EVERY workout, soothes every pain… gives me the confidence to lift that extra weight.. and never leaves my side !!

So that means I actually talk thru every part of the journey with him.  What I’ll eat (or not), how hard I’ll push myself.. etc etc.   I don’t need to doubt my methods and choices.. even when they’re different to someone else’s.. because I made those choices with my Lord !!

This level of confidence in my journey is beyond awesome !!!!! It makes it very easy to stay on track.. even with the odd temporary ‘down’ period.

Ok peeps…. enjoy your week & remember that our journeys are all different.  We won’t travel the same path to reach our destination.  ūüėé

Much love & encouragement !! xx

PS.  In my pic tonight I’m wearing my new fav workout singlet.   My super awesome sister brought this home from Hawaii for me yest (That’s why I’m doing the shakaūüėÖ).  As my Mum pointed out today … the words don’t only speak to my fitness journey.. but also to my spiritual journey.  This is so so true…. and I’m constantly under construction in His will !!! LOVE IT !!!

Playing the head-game… & winning !!

So, it’s well & truly time for a fitness blog update !!

I am in week 6 of the 6wk Winter challenge with my lovely PT, Mel. ¬†I am, overall, very happy with the challenge as I have noticed positive changes in my body shape and muscle mass, as well as great improvements in how clothes fit and feel. ¬†I asked DH to assess the improvement in my thighs and he dared to use the term ‘Thunder thighs’.. Um, no honey…. just NO !!! ¬†I know he did mean it in a very positive way, so it’s all good, but still…. ¬†careful with word choices peeps. ¬†ha ha.

As the title suggests, the fitness and healthy living business is, and will continue to be, a head-game. ¬†I got on the scales earlier this week and put myself in a frump for the rest of the morning as I wasn’t as happy with the result as I could have been. ¬†I need to learn to STOP OBSESSING ABOUT THE NUMBER. ¬†It really means nothing anyway, but it still continues to plague me, so onto the prayer list it goes for help in this area.

In order to achieve the results I’m after, we changed my PT sessions from one strength and one boxing sesh, to two strength training sessions per week. ¬†I’ve really noticed the difference in toning, so this is a great thing. ¬†I’ve also got a PT sesh in the bank from being unwell last week, so I’m really looking forward to having a 3PT session week next week.

One of the reasons my thighs are coming along well will be because I do do a fair amount of wall sits & squats. ¬†& trust me, the enjoyment shown in this pic is a put on….. it’s so not fun. ¬† I’m also starting to see real definition in my upper arms, which was one of my main goals from the get-go, so I’m pretty happy with that. ¬†I must say, while I’ve improved in my ability to do push-ups (quantity wise), I can’t say I’m anywhere near perfecting technique. ¬†This is a little disappointing, but hey, I’ve got heaps of time to work on them if I want to keep and improve on the toning I already have achieved.

13940112_10154450956844540_533414349_o13939971_10154451062274540_643493308_o

I have been doing a food diary during the 6wk challenge also and it’s proven very helpful this week as my PT was able to point out that I had a few too many treats last week. ¬†You really don’t see them adding up over the week.. and I was simply filling it all out and then handing it to her…not actually looking back on it myself. ¬†When I got the txt message that listed all the things I had in the week, it was like… ¬†“OK then… that was way naughty.”. ¬†I’ll defs be keeping up the food diary habit and looking over it as I go thru the week, so as to keep on top of what I have and haven’t had. ¬†That way, I can make good decisions as to whether I can have that treat or not. ¬†We did go to the EKKA on Sunday (blog post coming), which was part of my naughtiness when it comes to treats, but there were a bit too much treat eating in the week leading up to it too. ¬†Lesson learnt !!! ¬†:0)

I’ve been reading up a lot about Metabolism too in the last few days. It’s a fascinating subject to say the least. ¬†Simply knowing that it’s not just about food and exercise, but also sleep, that plays into your successful and on-going fitness journey. ¬†I keep getting pulled back to the benefits of green tea….. if only I didn’t hate drinking it quite so much. ¬†I really need to shake up my breakfast more….. in two ways… The first is to have it earlier….. to kick start the day well.. and also to have more variation. ¬†Well, actually it would be an improvement for me to have ANY variation. I just love me weetbix & yoghurt so much that I find it hard to change it up. ¬†I defs thinks it’s a habit thing too (& some laziness at actually getting out a pan and cooking something. ha ha). ¬†I really struggle with the idea of eating eggs in the morning. ¬†However, avocado & feta smash on pumpkin seed bread… I could defs do that some mornings. ¬†Now… to just do it !!

The head-game silliness can hit you at any time really, so the great breakfast choices are so important. ¬†That way, when you get those negative thoughts, telling you that you’re not doing a good job, that you’re not getting results… can be kicked to the kerb easily. ¬†I find that really works for me. ¬†If I can look back on my day and see that my food intake, water consumption and exercise have been on pointe, then I can tell the enemy where to go with his insinuations. ¬† (& have a little happy dance on his face when I tell him he’s UNDER MY FEET!!)

I also discovered Revelation Wellness¬†with Alisa Keaton on both Facebook and iTunes this week. ¬†What a fantastic resource. ¬†I can’t wait to listen to more of their podcasts. ¬†Having Jesus in the workout/fitness journey equation is something I’ve always done, so it’s great to find a trainer/group that fully embraces that concept. ¬†I’ve had some particularly amazeballs times with The Lord during my workouts on my own this week.

OK… ¬†Great to catch up. ¬†Keep on eye out in your inbox for a blog notification about my day at the EKKA very soon.. but first…. it’s WORKOUT TIME !!! ¬†WOOT WOOT !!!

Blessings  xox

Getting my mo-jo back !!

Hiya blog readers….  It’s been a little while I know, but after my exciting trip to Adelaide with my sis, my lovely DH shared the flu with me…. and yes, it was actually the flu..not just a bad cold.  It’s a pet peeve of mine when people have a slight runny nose and tell everyone they have the flu…. um, no you don’t, suck it up cupcake and put some vicks on it.  :0)  When you’ve had the full blown flu, you know about it.  :0(

Anyway, so I’m nearly 100% better… maybe I’m at 98%, still a lingering cough happening, but I’ve been able to knock out 3 half decent PT sessions, so I feel ok about it.

However, last week, when I was trying to get back into my fitness routine, it was a hard slog…..  low on energy etc. It was a complete head game I’m telling you…. I seriously had to fight the feelings of having completely fallen off the healthy lifestyle wagon, having to resort to midday naps, and the occasional naughty comfort food.  (darn those fundraising Freddo frogs for Miss 15’s dance comps).  While I knew I’d only missed 3 PT sessions all up and a few nightly walks, I honestly felt like I had stepped back 6mths when it came to my fitness level.

I had to constantly remind myself that it was just a blip in the timeline and I was well on the way to being 100% back on track.  As I improved physically, I was able to better grab hold of those negative thoughts and toss them to the kerb.

Perhaps it’s perfect timing that my lovely PT is beginning a 6wk challenge t’row.  Other clients of hers are going to ban together to achieve great things in the next 6wks.  To say “I can’t wait!” is an understatement.  To add to my forward momentum, I’ve also committed to running/walking/cycling/elliptical’ing 5kms per day for the entire month of July.  It’s a cause in aid of a Local Pastor’s wife who is battling brain cancer at present.  I’ve done the 5kms locally yesterday and today, but I’m sure I’ll have to resort to trustie Ellie the Elliptical on days when I just don’t have the 40mins to get out and walk it.  Here is the gorgeous view from yesterday and today on my walk.

I must say, when I was out on my walk today, joined by Master 11, I was in awe of the beauty in my local suburb.  It was mid afternoon, maybe 22degrees, a thousand and one Lorikeets in the many trees… and I couldn’t help but thank God for this wonderful blessing, to be able to not only have this beauty to walk amongst, but to actually live in this area.

It brought to mind some of the lyrics from Hillsongs ‘Transfiguration’….

Holy is the Lord revealed before my eyes

And my burning heart can scarcely take it in
As I behold your beauty with unworthy eyes
The only song my soul can find to sing
Is Hallelujah Hallelujah Hallelujah my KingWhile marvelling at my surrounds, God reminded me that I’M beautiful too.  Genesis 1:27 says So God created mankind in his own image, in the image of God he created them; male and female he created them.   Ephesian 2:10 tells us that we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.  When thinking on this, it really did remind me that even when things seem very difficult (it’s election day today here in Australia), God has it all in hand.  When we know He can create gorgeous sunsets and settings like those two I took on my walks, it’s really not much to trust that He has a little thing like the political situation in hand.     :0)
Back to fitness (aka Respecting the temple), I also made a purchase on Thursday of two new fitness friends (actually they’re identical twins)….   2 x 4kg kettle bells.  I’ve got a 6kg slam ball, a 6kg kettle bell and loads of dumb-bells, but I didn’t have two weight of equal weight to squat with etc, so I was excited to get these two new workout buddies.  They don’t talk much, but hey… you gotta take what you can get, right.  LOL.

Ok peeps….  it’s off to bed for me…. well, after I check out the latest poling numbers for today’s federal election.  It’s really similar to when a disaster happens around the world…..  the twin towers, the lindt cafe etc …. you want to turn it off and go do something constructive with your time (like sleeping), but you just can’t turn away.

Blessings Peeps !!!!

Shrinking tents, expanding territory & planning War :0)

Hi all !!

It’s Friday afternoon …. ¬†schoolwork is complete (well, Miss 15 is still going, but hey, she NEVER stops working), the weekend is so close I can taste it. ¬† Youth group for the kiddos tonight means DATE NIGHT for me & DH !! ¬†YAY !!

This week, I posted this pic on my FB page, marking having lost 5kgs.

13315628_10154259302664540_1692590887027485877_n

It’s been quite the head game for me when it comes to numbers. ¬†I fight against the urge to jump on those scales every morning, but I’m getting better and better at sticking to my PTs suggestion of weighing myself only on Day 6 of each month. ¬†I’ve actually not been on the scales since day 6 of last month, so I’m super excited to find out if my very late 5kg lost post was actually quite conservative.

Last time, I was ‘losing weight’, not getting healthy … and that’s the big difference. ¬†Now, don’t get me wrong, I would have been getting fitter in the process, but all I basically did was walk or run, with the weekly bootcamp session thrown in. ¬†I didn’t do much at all in the way of weight training. ¬†So, I got the result I was after, I lost 10kgs in about 4months, but only looked thinner… I had little to no definition.

This time, that number on the scales is going down slower, but I’m not just burning fat, but replacing it with hard core muscle baby !!!!! ¬†I’ve gotta say.. I love the definition I’m getting. ¬†I’ve said it before… toned upper arms is something I really love… and I’m getting closer and closer to being happy with it. ¬†(just in time to cover it up with long sleeves for winter… ha ha)

The weight bench I got for Mother’s Day has been great. ¬†(However sometimes when I’m actually out here I hate it a tiny bit). ¬†I can cover so many different muscle groups in one session, it’s awesome !! ¬†I talk to The Lord a fair bit during longer periods (like rowing) or when I’m struggling to get those last 5 reps in. ¬†I simply DECLARE that I can get them done… and what do you know… I do ! ¬†It’s quite interesting finding out what makes you sore the next day, and what doesn’t. ¬†Apparently it’s just about different muscle groups and some hurt more than others, but I can’t help thinking that if I don’t feel it the next day, I didn’t work hard enough. ¬†This is a good mind-set as it just makes me work harder next time.

I’ve already gotten into my first ‘goal dress’, but the funny thing was that once I was in it, I actually didn’t like it much anymore, so onto eBay it goes. ¬†LOL. (Don’t worry, I did wear it out once.) ¬† Isn’t it funny that you get into these ‘goal’ items, but that means you’re ‘growing out’ of those favorite jeans… ¬†I must say, I’m still going the belt route with my fav jeans.. I just can’t give them up yet. ¬†ha ha.

I’m still having fun ‘healthifying’ my tried and true recipes for my family. ¬†A lot of the time it just means swapping out white potato for sweet potato, or pasta for salad etc, but I’ve also had some fun playing with my lasagna recipe. ¬†The idea actually came from my sister, but I used lavash bread in place of the lasagna sheets.. and it was devine !!! ¬†She also gave me the idea of making the Bechamel sauce with a cauliflower base. ¬†I’ve heard from a few people that it’s delicious…. and such a healthier alternative to having all that milk & flour.

My Thermomix, aka Trixie, has churned out some yummy healthy meals too which has been great. ¬†The bolognese sauce for my lasagna was made in Trixie and was made with only healthy ingredients. ¬†I know I said this about my Belini, but it’s amazing how flavoursome the meals are, being cooked with the thermo method. ¬†You actually use few ingredients, and what you do use is completely natural. ¬†I’m able to put so many vegetables in that the kids would normally balk at, like mushrooms, celery & squash.

Trixie

I’ve also loved being able to plate up a full healthy meal to my family when the ENTRIE thing… meat, vegetables and a sauce were made in Trixie.. and all simultaneously. ¬†I just LOVE it !! The kids (who are the washer-uppers in our house as our dishwasher died a couple of years ago and we are yet to replace it) love when I cook in Trixie as it’s reduces the amount they have to wash up.

I never thought I’d be a big advocate of the $2.300 kitchen appliance to be honest, which is why I bought the $700 Belini first and then only upgraded after knowing that I loved the thermo cooking method. ¬†But, now having had it for a few weeks and having made loads of things in it, I would seriously highly recommend it. It seriously is true that you’ll save money when you have one, due to reducing the amount of processed items you buy.

AND it can’t be ignored that is has helped me no end as far as serving up healthy dinners. ¬†My Trixie is definitely helping in the process of shrinking my temple. ¬†BUT (Yes, I do love putting words of emphasis in capitals… sorry, not sorry) while my earthly tent is shrinking, I gotta tell you all, my spiritual tent is GROWING !!!! ¬†Remember I blogged about my big fur coat prophecy… ¬†well I’ve continued to ask for expansion, (enlarge my territory.. 1 Chronicles 4:10) and while it’s come with some pain & many tears, I continue to grow in The Lord, loving my time spent with Him, and learning all He has to teach me.

I’m super dooper excited to share with you all that after nearly a year of planning on where my ‘War Room’ would be in my house, I’ve finally done it !!! ¬†I wanted somewhere where I could go regularly, spend time with The Lord where I specifically focus on the needs of my loved ones. ¬†I haven’t gotten to getting my ‘war plan’ up on the wall as yet, but that is on my wknd list for this very wknd. ¬†Can’t wait….. super excited & expectant !!!

OK peeps. ¬†Have a fantastic weekend…. Press in to The Lord… You’ll always be blown away by what he does with your time together.

Blessings xx

I love to lift…. Him on high !!

13128809_10154188639804540_947423257_o

So, I love love love toned arms…like seriously, it’s my fav fit body feature. ¬†So, it’s no surprise that I love to lift, as that going to give me what I want. ¬†I’m kinda going for a ‘Tris in Divergent’ kinda look. When I’ve achieved that, I’ll be a very happy girl. ¬†(LOL.. small pleasures.)

I quite often will tag #jesusismyworkoutbuddy in my fitness pics and posts and it’s not just a gimicky thing to say. ¬†I talk to Him a fair bit during each workout. ¬†Usually it’s something along the lines of ‘Please get me through this torturous workout without dying’, but when I’m doing something rhythmical/repetetive, like rowing, I can get up a good ‘ole conversation.

While making the decision to respect the temple is & will continue to bring great physical results, it also provides loads of extra time to talk to The Lord. ¬†Walks are especially good for this too. ¬†I may have blogged about this once before a very long time ago, but I was running a few years back now and whenever I was running in an area I didn’t feel completely safe, under a bridge or in a quiet street etc, I would claim protection over myself and in doing that I would often be shown the warrior angels running behind, before and either side of me. ¬†This one particular time when I was shown them, I also had Jesus running alongside me. ¬†Now, I have always seen Jesus in the ‘typical’ clothes, belted white tunic dress thingo and sandals (other people may see him differently, but that’s how I always see him.). ¬†Anyway, I remember commenting to Him that it must be uncomfortable to run in sandals… and then of course thinking that was the stupidest thing I ever said… ¬†seriously, I’d say Jesus can run in anything, right.

So, the next time I was in that same situation and claimed protection, and there they were , I noticed straight away that Jesus had runners on…. ¬†seriously, I’m not kidding you right now…. ¬†I commented on them and He says to me “Yes, I thought I’d try them out.” ¬†Bahahahahahaha. ¬†That was hands down the coolest convo I’ve had with Jesus. ¬†He hasn’t actually run with me anytime of late, but then again I’m not running the same areas as I used to and there aren’t really any areas where I don’t feel safe.

So, back to lifting. ¬†This experience was really profound for me at the time as it showed me that God is with us in EVERY situation. ¬†Not just the ‘church’ stuff, but the ‘everyday’. ¬†It made me realise that my decision to be healthy and get fit was less about my benefit and more about bringing Glory to HIM !! ¬†After all, He created me

Ephesians 2:10

For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them.

By choosing to respect the temple, I’m choosing to respect what He created and to give Him the glory !! ¬†I’m choosing to respect this body He gave me so I’m in tip-top condition to do His work.

Isaiah 58:11

And the Lord will guide you continually and satisfy your desire in scorched places and make your bones strong; and you shall be like a watered garden, like a spring of water, whose waters do not fail.

I do love that when I have completed a good workout, I know that He was with me throughout it, strengthening me, keeping me motivated and focused me on His plans for me.

Isaiah 40:31

But they who wait for the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings like eagles; they shall run and not be weary; they shall walk and not faint.

OK… ¬†that’s it for now peeps. ¬†Have a super blessed day … go for a walk and spend some time with The Lord…. He’ll love it, you’ll love it, and you’ll get far more out of it than you ever thought you would !!

Guard your heart. .. and your face

I had my first boxing PT sesh yesturday and it was THEBOMB.COM !! Such a fun way to workout.

image

If you really look closely you can tell I’m laughing in the above pic. .. it was way fun to power out some energy.
What most struck my though was after each jab, hook, or whatever you were doing,  you need to come back to ‘guard’ which is basically protecting your face.

You’d think it’d be a fairly natural thing to do,  to want to protect your face,  but Mel, my PT, had to keep reminding me.   I kinda had it by the end,  but it got me thinking later about Proverbs 4 :23 Guard your heart with all vigilance, for from it are the sources of life.

Mel was saying that it’s very common to guard your chest. . And while it makes more sense to guard your face (more breakable things on it I guess.. ha ha), it reminded me of that verse in Proverbs and how it’s probably true that we feel more at risk of a heart hurt than a physical hurt in day to day life.

image

It’s not often we’re gonna cop a jab to the face is it,  but it can be pretty often that our heart is ‘jabbed’.  Whether it be intentional or deliberate, it hurts and does tend to cause us to guard it.  I read something yesturday about how silly that ‘Sticks & stones’ poem is.   Names DO hurt us… and can often cause more lasting wounds than a physical jab.

What I choose to take from this knowledge though is that when you recognize how easily someone’s unkind or thoughtless words and actions can hurt you,  it makes you more aware of your own.

Proverbs 18:21 – Death and life are in the power of the tongue, and those who love it will eat its fruits.

Proverbs 12:18 – There is one whose rash words are like sword thrusts, but the tongue of the wise brings healing.
This one is a life verse I choose to live by. .. I now recognize & claim the gifting that God has put in my heart. .. to heal the brokenhearted.  It’s a tough gig to be honest as to have a real needs awareness you need to ask to have your heart broken for what breaks His.  This is required for me to best be able to help in the healing process of whoever’s life I’m speaking into,  but can be emotionally taxing.  Clearly these people are always going to be those I care about deeply, so not just the sadness of the situation,  but the heartache of my friend can be gut wrenching.

This in itself is just another reason why I need to guard my heart, as the enemy does love to swoop in when you’re low and send a nice hot arrow in. If I allow it to penetrate me, it can put me out of action to help others.

Another element of boxing that parallels into everyday life, as well as spiritual battles, is the correct stance.  It’s important to have the correct stance in order to be stable and have full body movement. .. not only to deliver your punches,  but deflect any blows.  If we don’t take the correct stance, we’ll be unstable & unprepared.

Stay alert, stand firm in the faith, show courage, be strong.

1 Corinthians 16:13

So.. in short… get on the full armor of God… (and maybe some boxing gloves. )

xx

The rude interuption.

Sorry for the delay with my fitness blog for last week, but I haven’t been very well, so I’ve had to prioritise my Bible College study over blog entries.

As the title says, I’ve really found my ‘unwell state’ to be quite a rude interuption to my fitness plan. ¬†While I was still able to do my PT sesh last Monday (& not die), I was only able to do one of the two sessions I should ¬†between PT each week. ¬†Thankfully I was able to still do my half hour walk each evening, so I don’t feel like a complete failure, but still…. ¬†it is annoying to have not put everything into the week that I wanted to.

I think I actually had a mild tummy bug… mild in the way that I didn’t puke or anything… ¬†but I had the rest of the normal symptoms… terrible nausea, headaches, exhaustion etc. ¬†It was pretty weird actually seeing as I KNOW I didn’t eat anything to warrant this tummy bug. ¬†However, I do know from eating well in the past that my body does LOVE eating clean… to the point where if I have a ‘treat’, it doesn’t like it at all. ¬†I pay for it bigtime!!

All I had was a skinny caramel mocha while out with some girlfriends !! ¬†Must be a whole pile of nasty sugar in that one cup coz, man, I felt like poop after having it… and for the next 4 days. ¬†(Seriously, it wasn’t worth it!!) ¬†It can get a little sad really when you feel you can’t have the odd treat.. but I have found a treat drink that I can have and my body doesn’t hate me after… ¬†A mango smoothie on Soy milk. ¬†I just need to find a hot drink I can enjoy, seeng we’re going to be heading into cooler weather soon. ¬†(YAY for that)

I’ve never been diagnosed with a milk intolerance, but I certainly think I do have one to a degree. ¬†I’m fine to have milk on my weet-bix in the morning, but anything after that and my body lets me know all about it. ¬†I’ve found that if I have soy/almond/rice milk, be it in a drink or in cooking etc, my body is ok with that.

I used my Nutri-infusion again on the weekend… I gotta admit I’ve been a little slack on the smoothie front.. ¬†The smoothie I made, while very refreshing on what was a 34 degree day on Saturday, was a little bland. ¬†I realised why when I looked at what I’d put in it… ¬†Watermelon, strawberries, kiwi fruit, chia seeds & coconut milk yoghurt. ¬†A lot of water based, not a lot of sugar ingredients make for a refreshing but low-in-taste smoothie. ¬† I bought the (ridiculously expensive) coconut milk yoghurt thinking it was such a great healthy option, but man it is sooooooo bland. ¬†I seriously had to put some sugar in it to make it edible.

However, I did use it (coz seriously, who’s gonna waste a tub of $10 yoghurt) in a stir-fry, and it was DEVINE !!!! ¬†Like not just a little nice, but DEVINELY DEVINE !!! ¬†(Yes, I know devinely is not a proper word.)

I do think that I’m noticing positive changes in my body, which of course is a great thing !! ¬†Slow and steady, but all improvement is good !! ¬†I’m also quite ‘enjoying’ perfecting push-ups and other exercises. ¬†In lots of ways, I hate doing them, but at the same time it’s such a feeling of accomplishment to do them (even if I still suck at them and am officially the most un-coordinated person ever.) ¬†I do love the overall look of toned muscels… especially upper arms… ¬†I really want to reach my goals this way, as apposed to just dropping the excess. ¬†I was ‘skinny fat’ for years and it’s just not cool… so this is where the rubber hits the road. ¬†Positive changes peeps !!

12768151_10154002308024540_4444834766828367539_o

My lovely PT Mel is coming again this arv, so I’m hoping I’ve regained enough strength after the bug to power on through another session… and then power on into the week. ¬†It’s only 5 sleeps until I board the Pacific Dawn with 11 of my galpals to enjoy 3 relaxing nights away. ¬†I’m not feeling particularly worried about ‘eating bad’ whilst onboard as I didn’t find myself prone to that when cruising to NZ in December. ¬†Of course, you enjoy the food, but it’s all so so yummy that you just chose to enjoy the healthier selections rather than the unhealthy. ¬† Also, I’ll stick to my tried and tested plan from December….. always take the stairs !!

Be blessed, get fit & respect the temple peeps !!  xox

Or do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit within you, whom you have from God? You are not your own,  1 Cor 6:19

A FitFi update !!

While lying in bed last night feeling terribly sick after my first PT session, I realised that I haven’t blogged about my fitness journey for quite a long time. ¬†Well, let’s just be honest and say that I may have fallen off the wagon a little over Christmas & New Year, but thankfully not too bad of a fall.(kg wise) ¬†I guess in lots of ways, people do tend to relax a little over these times, but the important thing is to pull it all together once those times have passed. ¬†Remembering who we house in the temple is always a great motivator too !!

Wagon

I could have continued on my merry way of fairly clean eating and a moderate excersise routine, but I decided a few weeks back that I wasn’t really willing to plod along at such a steady rate… I wanted results faster and I wanted to get fitter quicker. ¬†So, enter Mel, my Personal Trainer. ¬†My sister & niece highly recommended her, so I knew she’d be great before I even had my first consult.

My first offical 30min session was, shall we say, BRUTAL!!! ¬† In the days coming up to my first session, I had been thinking that I’d like them to be an hour and not just 30mins… Well, let’s just say that I was VERY thankful they are only 30mins during the session yesturday. ¬†As it’s turned out, I had a sinus infection upon me so that will have contributed to how awful I felt after, but no fear… lots of water and rest has been my friend overnight and today.

Mel has given me an action plan for the week ahead so that’s exciting to embark on. ¬†I’m very thankful of today’s ‘rest day’ and I say I’ll come to enjoy that rest day every second day. ¬†It’s actually pretty interesting to learn more of the ins and outs of how our body works… how it burns fat, builds & repairs mucsels, etc etc.

I have been enjoying finding different, healthier ways to prepare meals for my family. ¬†I’ve been quite pleased to find loads of different ways to include white potato as part of the meal for DH & the kiddos (coz they love it), while having something else for myself. ¬†Tonight that was a bit of mashed pumpkin and spinach, often I’ll use sweet potato. ¬†I coated my chicken in coconut oil tonight too so that was yummy… coconut oil has loads of great health benefits.

10 facts about Coconut Oil

1. ¬†All fats are not created equalCoconut oil contains short term medium-chain saturated fatty acids (MCFAs), which is a “healthy” form saturated fat compared to trans fat. Trans fatty acid consumption is linked with heart problems, depression and increased cholesterol levels. What does consuming MCFA fats in coconut oil mean for your body? Our body metabolises these fats in the liver, immediately converting this into energy (fuel for the brain and muscle function) rather than it being stored as fat.

2. ¬†Controls weightOne 2009 study looked at the weight loss link between women’s consumption of coconut oil and found that it reduces abdominal obesity. Researchers discovered coconut oil is easy to digest and also protects the body from insulin resistance. To try coconut oil for weight loss start by adding one teaspoon to your diet and gradually work your way up to four teaspoons per day.

3.  Eases digestionIf you suffer from poor digestion or tummy bloating try adding coconut oil to your diet. Coconut oil has been found to benefit digestive disorders including irritable bowel syndrome and microbial related tummy bugs. Fatty acids in coconut oil contain anti microbial properties, which have a soothing affect on bacteria, candida, or parasites that cause poor digestion.

4. ¬†Manage type 2 diabetesA recent study by the Garvan Institute of Medical Research found that coconut oil protects against insulin resistance, reducing the risk of type 2 diabetes. MCFA fats are small enough to be absorbed into the cells where they’re quickly converted to energy. It is this process that not only reduces the amount of fat we pack into storage, but improves insulin sensitivity.

5.  Supports immunityCoconut oil is made up of healthy fats lauric acid, caprylic acid and capric acid which contain antifungal, antibacterial, antiviral prosperities to boost the immune system. Lauric acid contains the highest concentration of MCFA fatty acids, approximately 75 per cent. The body turn this fat into monolaurin which is claimed to help heal viruses such as herpes, influenza, cytomegalovirus, helicobacter pylori and candida.

6. ¬†Boost metabolismA study reported in the Journal of Nutrition found that coconut oil boosts metabolism. Researchers found that participants who consumed two tablespoons of coconut oil per day burned more kilojoules than those who consumed less. A speedy metabolism helps boost the body’s immune system and keep weight off.

7. ¬†Slows fine linesCoconut is not just for your cooking ‚Äď it’s a wonderfully hydrating treat for skin too. It keeps the skin’s connective tissues strong, which prevents sagging and wrinkles. Apply coconut oil directly to your skin to soften the appearance of fine lines or use it daily on your face and body for a healthy glow. Be sure you use virgin coconut oil with no additives.

8. ¬†Cooks in high temperaturesBecause coconut oil is a medium-chain saturated fatty acid, it gives it a higher smoking temperature than most polyunsaturated or monounsaturated oils. If you’re preparing recipes that require high temperatures you should consider coconut oil for this type of cooking. Unlike olive oil which will oxidise at high temperatures, creating free radicals.

9. ¬†Stops sugar cravingsInstead of reaching for the lollie jar for an afternoon sweet hit, try eating a teaspoon of virgin coconut oil to beat sugar cravings. This is because good quality fat is more satiating than carbs, so if you cut down on sugar you will feel less ‘ravenous’. Most of us do not realize but constant hunger is a major clue that your body is not being fed correctly.¬† With the proper amounts of fats and protein, you can fuel your energy reserves properly, and come off the sugar roller coaster that many of us are on.
